Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ta-Sin-Mim. 1 These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain. 2 We [now] convey unto thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, setting forth the truth for [the benefit of] people who will believe. 3 Pharaoh had exalted himself in the land and had divided its people into sects, one group he abased, putting their sons to death and sparing their women, for he was one of those who corrupted. 4 And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors 5 and to establish them in the land, and to show Pharaoh and Ha man, and their hosts, what they were dreading from them. 6 So We revealed to Moses' mother, 'Suckle him, then, when thou fearest for him, cast him into the sea, and do not fear, neither sorrow, for We shall return him to thee, and shall appoint him one of the Envoys.' 7 Then the people of Pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for Pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin. 8 and Pharaoh's wife said, "He will be a joy to the eye for me and you! Do not slay him: he may well be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They did not realize what they were doing. 9 The heart of Moses' mother was relieved and confident. But she would almost have made the whole matter public had We not strengthened her heart with faith. 10 And she said unto his sister: Trace him. So she observed him from afar, and they perceived not. 11 ۞ We had decreed that the infant must not be breast-fed by any nurse besides his mother. His sister said to the people of the Pharaoh, "May I show you a family who can nurse him for you with kindness?" 12 Thus We restored him to his mother, so that she might be comforted and not grieve any more, and so that she would know that God's promise was true. But most of them do not realize this. 13
