The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
