He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
