(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 We sent down upon them a violent sandstorm (which destroyed them all) except for the family of Lot, whom We saved in the early morning by Our favor. 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
