The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
