He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
