The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 On a grievous day, 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
