(Muhammad), they will ask you about Dhu 'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I shall tell you something about him". 83 Indeed We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way. 84 So he followed a way. 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed yet another path, 89 Until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We (Allah) had provided no shelter against the sun. 90 So (it was). And We knew all concerning him. 91 Then he followed a way 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said: 'O Dhu'l-Qarnain, Gog and Magog are oppressing the land. May we pay you some tribute so that you could build a rampart between us and them?" 94 He answered: "Whatever my Lord has granted me is good enough. But help me with your labour and I will erect a rampart between you and them. 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 Therefore Yajuj and Majuj were neither able to surmount it, nor could they pierce it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 We will fully expose the view of hell on that Day to the disbelievers, 100 Whose eyes were veiled against My warning, and they could not hear. 101
