Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The Trustworthy Spirit brought it down. (Angel Jibreel peace be upon him.) 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment; 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened, 206 none of their luxuries will be able to save them from the torment? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 neither are they worthy of it, nor are they capable of it, 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 Warn your close relatives 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Do you not see that in every valley they roam 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Poets (Alshu'araa'). Sent down in Mecca after The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah) before The Ant (Al-Naml)
