The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
