In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
