He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
