The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
