He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
