The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
