The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
