The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 Over every soul there is a watcher. 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 it is no merriment. 14 As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, 15 But I am planning a plan. 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
