The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
