To Moses we also revealed: 'Set forth with My worshipers by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Do not fear that you will be overtaken, neither be afraid' 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his legions so they were overwhelmed from the sea with that which drowned them. 78 The Pharaoh had led his people astray, and did not rightly guide them. 79 O children of Israel! [Thus] We saved you from your enemy, and [then] We made a covenant with you on the right-hand slope of Mount Sinai, and repeatedly sent down manna and quails unto you, [saying,] 80 “Eat the good clean things We have provided you, and do not exceed the limits in respect of it causing My wrath to descend upon you; and indeed the one on whom My wrath descended, has fallen.” 81 I am All-forgiving to the righteously striving believers who repent and follow the right guidance. 82 ۞ [Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?" 83 He said: "They are right behind me. I have hastened to You, O Lord, so that You may be pleased." 84 (Allah) said: "Verily! We have tried your people in your absence, and As-Samiri has led them astray." 85 Thereupon Moses returned to his people full of wrath and sorrow, [and] exclaimed: "O my people! Did not your Sustainer hold out [many] a goodly promise to you? bid, then, [the fulfilment of] this promise seem to you too long in coming? Or are you, perchance, determined to see your Sustainer's condemnation fall upon you, and so you broke your promise to me?" 86 They said, “We did not renege on our promise to you on our own will, but we were made to carry the burdens of ornaments of the people, so we cast them – and similarly did Samri cast.” 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
