Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
