The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
