The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
