Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
