The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
