The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
