And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no loyal friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
