The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
