Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 By the clear Book, 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
