The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
