a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
