Nay, and by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 who will be in Paradise 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
