The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
