The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
