The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
