Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord - you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
