In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
