So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 [All forces of nature praise God and say:] "Among us, too, there is none but has a place assigned to it [by Him]; 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 They say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And watch them, for they will soon see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
