The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
