Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection 1 Nay! I swear by the self-accusing soul. 2 Does man think that We will not assemble his bones? 3 Surely yes, why not? We can properly make all his phalanxes. 4 Nay, but man desires to continue on as a libertine, 5 'When will the Day of Resurrection be' he asks, 6 But when sight is confounded 7 and the moon is eclipsed, 8 And the sun and moon are conjoined, 9 On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?" 10 Never so, for there will be no escape. 11 Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day. 12 To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind. 13 Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds]. 14 Even though he were to put up his excuses. 15 MOVE NOT thy tongue in haste, [repeating the words of the revelation:] 16 Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof. 17 And when We read it, follow thou the reading; 18 Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]. 19 Nay; the truth is that you love ardently (the good of this world) that can be obtained hastily, 20 and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 21 How many faces will be refulgent on that Day, 22 looking towards their Lord; 23 and some faces on that Day will be gloomy, 24 Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking. 25 But when [man's soul] reaches the throat, 26 And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician (to restore him)?" 27 the while he [himself] knows that this is the parting, 28 And one shank is entangled with the other shank. 29 unto thy Lord that Day is the drive. 30
