Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayest be of the warners, 194 in clear Arabic speech. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 By way of reminder, and We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power, 211 Indeed they are debarred from even hearing it. 212 So do not call any other god beside Allah lest you become of those who will be punished, 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?- 225 and how they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
