The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
