Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
