۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
