Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
