The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
