The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
