He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
