Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
