The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
