The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
